Penguin Random House and award-winning comic book artist Jason Bradley Thompson are bringing back some of Dungeons & Dragons’ most iconic death traps with a new art book entitled Dungeons! Illustrated Maps of Classic D&D Adventures

The book features a humorous and highly detailed look at eight iconic D&D locations, each of which is annotated with tongue-in-cheek asides about the various monsters, traps, NPCs and treasure hidden within. Dungeons! is slated for release in hardcover and eBook in April 2027, but you can pre-order it now from your local bookstore and Amazon.

Dungeons! is an 80-page humorous art book written and drawn by award-winning cartoonist Jason Bradley Thompson. The book uses the official Dungeons & Dragons license and details eight classic dungeons broken out across thirteen annotated, full-color maps (plus a gatefold map of the Sword Coast). The dungeons featured in the book are:

• The Moathouse of Evil from the Village of Hommlet.
• White Plume Mountain
• The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth
• The Underdark 
• Ten Towns
• Hold of the Storm Giants
• The Tomb of Horrors
• Barovia and Castle Ravenloft

Who is author and illustrator Jason Bradley Thompson?

Jason Bradley Thompson is an Eisner-nominated American comic book artist, cartographer, writer, editor and game designer. Over the years, he has contributed art to Wizards of the Coast for several D&D products and developed storyboards for films including The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Minions: The Rise of Gru.

Thompson also spent 14 years as an editor for US manga publisher Viz Media, where he launched the English edition of Shonen Jump and edited major series like Naruto, Dragon Ball and One Piece. His reference book, Manga: The Complete Guide, was also nominated for an Eisner Award in 2008 and he wrote the New York Times bestselling manga series King of RPGs, which was illustrated by Victor Hao.

In addition to his writing and art, Thompson is also a prolific tabletop game designer, creating titles such as Mangaka! and Cartooner.
